Why We Traded in Our FLIP Diapers for BumWorks

*The following mentions brands in which I just use from my own personal experiences. I in no way get paid to promote any brand. The following is strictly my opinions*

Upon starting cloth diapering as a parent I knew I would be using FLIP brand cloth diapers and inserts, as that is what I was most familiar with. My nanny family gifted us the whole set they had and I was a pro at using them! I was a nanny for them for over three years, all of which the cloth diapers were used. Despite them going through two children already, they were in great shape still and held up perfectly!

When I became pregnant with baby number two I knew I wanted to continue to cloth diaper. As we started to expand our collection of the ever familiar FLIP brand we were gifted a new type of diaper. BumWorks are pocket diaper as opposed to the insert diapers that FLIP are. Curious, we tried them out on our first born. Now, this mama does not do well with change, so I was quite leery at first. The designs were nice, and the fabric that would touch our babies’ skin was super soft, but it was not the diapers I was used too.

After a few days of using BumWorks, I fell in love! Enough to make me reconsider our whole diaper stash! After discussing the pros and cons with my husband (who really just said “you know best”), we decided to sell our 60 insert, 16 cover FLIP diaper set and invest in more BumWorks!

If you look online you will see all kinds of mixed reviews - and honestly you will find all kinds of conflicting reviews on all the brands. Personally, I find myself preferring BumWorks over FLIP because of many reasons. One, the value. For a FLIP cover and insert it costs roughly $20, for the same price you can get TWO BumWorks diapers and inserts! And they work amazing! The second reason I prefer BumWorks over FLIP is the insert. Now remember, I am not a fan of change, but when I started trying out the bamboo charcoal insert that comes with the BumWorks diapers, I instantly knew we needed to change. I felt these inserts were more natural than the microfiber/cotton FLIP ones. And maybe, because they were new and the others were almost 4 years old, they were softer and gentler on my baby's skin! A six pack of the bamboo charcoal inserts runs the same price as a three pack of the FLIP brand ones. Again, great value for quality! Lastly, BumWorks, for our baby, were able to be used for both days and nights! This means we didn't have to buy a different brand or rig up some super absorbent insert to hold up for 12 hours overnight! Using a regular FLIP cover and insert for overnight never worked for us, so finding a diaper that worked for both was a great blessing!

Now, I am not saying to go out and do the same as our family did, but I would suggest doing some research before you spend mucho money on your stash! If we weren't gifted such a huge set from the get go, I would have tried out some different brands and stocked up that way. I am very excited that my two boys will be in brand new cloths now! And judging by my first born’s skin, he seems very happy with the choice as well! :)
