As a past preschool teacher and nanny it has just been my nature to set a routine for my children when it comes to learning. I try to plan weekly themes and adventures for us to explore, whether it be to a park or the zoo or just the backyard. Below is an idea of what we do daily throughout the week. I will be posting another blog later with weekly themes we do and different ideas for each day.
MONDAYS: MESSY MONDAY! This, in our home, includes sensory activities or art projects. Something that gets the kids a mess! Yes, the word 'mess' terrifies some parents, but it is all about the kids here and their development and getting dirty is just one way they learn through exploration
TUESDAYS: TELL-ALL TUESDAY! On Tuesdays we usually take a trip out to a local book store for story time. I call Tuesdays Tell-All because on this day we really focus on communication skills. When the kids were younger we worked on baby sign language (check it out in a later post). As they get older we now focus on verbal communication as well as letters.
WEDNESDAYS: WET WEDNESDAY! If you couldn't figure it out, our middle of the week day consist of some kind of water play. This doesn't have to mean going to the pool all the time. Wet Wednesday simply means having some kind of activity involving water, even if that includes just a mid day bath or a sensory bin filled with ice. My oldest loves the water, so this is a favorite with him.
THURSDAYS: TELEPHONE THURSDAY! I had some trouble coming up with a good name for this day. Then I realized that we always use our Fisher Price Telephones to help with the lesson. Thursdays we focus on numbers and colors. The Fisher Price Telephone works great for this as it represents both very clearly (at least the old school one we have does).
FRIDAYS: FIND-IT FRIDAY! This day we play a lot of hide-n-seek games! This helps with the children's cognitive development. Sometimes it is having three cups and hiding an object under one, and sometimes it is a game of hide & seek. Regardless, it gets their brains thinking and that is always a plus!
Along with these daily themes, we also have a weekly theme we address and a fun outing we try to attend. Of course not everything goes as planned, so sometimes we miss a day and that is ok. Kids will be kids and there will be times a lesson just is not going to turn out the way you intended it too. Don't fret! Children will pick up all necessary skills eventually, just have a little patience.

I would love to hear from you :)
